From Vulnerability to Freedom. The story behind Cover Yer Assets

I didn’t set out to be an entrepreneur. In fact, for most of my life, I was a nurse, an ER nurse, a hospice nurse, and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. I spent my career tending to people in their most vulnerable moments. I saw what it meant to be powerless, and I knew firsthand how dignity and safety could be stripped away in an instant.

But my own journey with vulnerability started long before my nursing career. I grew up in an environment where I didn’t always feel safe. That shaped me. It made me resilient, tenacious, and deeply attuned to the ways women navigate the world, often in situations where their comfort, dignity, and safety are afterthoughts.

Then, at 60, I walked the 500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, and something in me shifted. Out on the trail, I saw how limited access to bathrooms wasn’t just an inconvenience, it was a barrier to freedom. I met women who had to plan their entire day around when and where they could relieve themselves. And it wasn’t just on the Camino; this is a universal issue. From hikers to festival-goers to women in countries without safe sanitation, the lack of privacy impacts how we move through the world.

That realization stuck with me.

When I retired from nursing at 65, I didn’t slow down, I pivoted. With no formal business training, I created Cover Yer Assets and developed the Stealth Skort, a revolutionary piece of clothing designed to give women back their freedom. The cornerstone of this design is an unsnapable pantie, allowing women to relieve themselves outdoors without exposure or vulnerability. It’s about more than convenience; it’s about reclaiming dignity and control.

But for me, this business isn’t just about a product, it’s about a mission. Every piece is made in the USA with eco-conscious fabrics, because protecting women shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet. And 10% of our profits go to nonprofits that fight for women’s safety and access to basic needs, like clean water and private bathrooms.

I started Cover Yer Assets because I believe women shouldn’t have to choose between adventure and safety, between dignity and practicality. I believe in opening doors, literally and figuratively, for women everywhere. And if I can make people laugh a little along the way, even better.

So here I am, not just an entrepreneur but an advocate, an inventor, and a woman who refuses to accept the status quo. And if my story proves anything, it’s that sometimes, the best ideas come when you least expect them, like in the middle of a 500-mile walk, or when you’re desperately searching for a bathroom that isn’t there.
